so let’s call this blog just that. formerly known as bollywood barbie, my personal blog has found a new home right here on djkalkutta.com. i’ve decided to share the stuff i usually tell my b-wood readers with the rest of cyberworld, and have transferred (most of) bollywood barbie onto the blog on my site. half of bollywood barbie is actually transferred my super old live journal blog, or what i refer to as my vintage blog. because honestly, who uses live journal anymore? it’s like xanga. ’like what??’ yeah, that’s what i thought. even though the old entries are transferred over, i still like to think of the new home for the blog as a fresh start. you write differently depending on who you think is reading your work, so in a way this will be a little different than bollywood barbie. the most major difference being that this “new blog” will be a lot less about my personal life and a lot more about stuff you people probably actually care about. speaking of which, feel free to let me know if there’s anything you want me to touch on or think i should include in here. i do this for you guys!
first order of business? a big thanks to everyone who came out to this:
the show was a huge success, and as many of you know i got to spin for quite a while before, during, and after the show. as antboogie is a dancer (who just got off tour with madonna!!), and many of the artists showcased are dancers turned musicians there was a huge turnout from the dance community. i’d just like to shout out some of new york’s finest dancers like adubz, daisha graf, lajon, jamie j., and mateo velasquez- great to see all of you supporting and getting down!! some of these people i haven’t seen in awhile, so it feels great to have one foot back in the door of the dance community. also, a big shout out to everyone i met at the show- hopefully we can jam in the future!
something else you can expect to pop up in my blog from time to time is stuff about LOST, the BEST SHOW OF ALL TIME. like everyone else who’s stuck it out for 5 confusing ass seasons of this thing, i am OBSESSED. thoughts on the last episode? i continue steadfast in my belief that kate is a freakin’ NINJA and jack is in a constant state of PMS. john locke is awesome and even though he is obviously a total psychopath it kind of sucked that he wasn’t in the last episode. on the other hand, it’s great that claire’s back, even if she is looking a flaming hot mess. there’s really not too much to say because i’m pretty sure everyone is still confused as balls at this point. so much for everyone being on one timeline/storyline…
i also do a little thing every entry where i either feature a hot mess of the day or it’s counterpart- act of brilliance of the day. more often than not i have a hot mess for you all, but today i’d actually like to share an act of pure genius: kelly cutrone’s new book called if you have to cry, go outside. PSA to all women and gay men: read this book. it will change your life.
my initial thought after reading it was very book criticesque- “this is a must-read for women who dream of having personal assistants instead of kids,” but in retrospect i realized everyone should really read this book. this woman has the most interesting take on religion, motherhood, love, and business. as a twentysomething (22!) i feel like i got so much out of this book because i’m past that teenage phase where i thought i knew everything and i can actually absorb advice. basically, it took her 44 years to learn everything she needed to know to make herself successful, and i think she’s targeting twentysomethings with this book so that they can learn in a quick read what she wished she had known all along. i already share a lot of the sentiments she expresses in the book, but i still feel like she saved me some trouble. her life and business experience are unparalleled in her industry, so if there’s anyone who knows what they’re talking about- it’s her. she also has a show on bravo called kell on earth, which i also love. if you’ve seen it, you’ll definitely dig the book and vice versa. i’ve made a bunch of my friends read this already, and so far everyone has thanked me profusely, so pick up a copy if you haven’t done so yet. (p.s. i also think it’s super worth the BUY rather than the BORROW because it’s one of those books you can look back and refer to when you’re having one of those moments/days/years where you really need to get your life together.)
that’s it for today, folks. i’m just glad to be up and running online again. expect more soon…
